Best known as the creator and writer of the acclaimed ITV historical drama Victoria, Daisy Goodwin has become one of Britain’s most celebrated historical storytellers. Starring Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria, the series captivated audiences around the world with its vivid portrayal of the young monarch’s rise to power, her marriage to Prince Albert and the personal challenges behind royal life. The drama ran for three successful series and was broadcast internationally, earning praise for bringing Victorian history to a modern audience.
Alongside the television series, Goodwin also authored the bestselling novel Victoria, which inspired and expanded upon the story seen on screen. Drawing on Queen Victoria’s diaries and extensive historical research, the book offered readers a fresh and intimate portrait of one of Britain’s most iconic monarchs.
Before becoming known for her historical fiction, Goodwin enjoyed a highly successful career in television production, creating and producing a number of major British television programmes, including Grand Designs and Escape to the Country. She has also written several bestselling novels and poetry anthologies, establishing herself as a leading voice in British cultural life.
Her latest project, Victoria: A Queen Unbound, is currently making waves on the London theatre scene. The new stage play revisits the life and marriage of Queen Victoria from a fresh and thought provoking perspective, continuing Goodwin’s long standing fascination with the monarch and her world.
