Amira Willighagen

---------

Amira Willighagen is an internationally acclaimed Dutch soprano whose remarkable musical journey began at the age of nine when she won Holland’s Got Talent in 2013. Her unforgettable performances of classical arias captured audiences around the world and launched a career that has since taken her to concert stages across Europe, North America, South Africa and beyond.

Entirely self-taught in her early years, Amira developed her love of classical singing through listening and learning independently before refining her artistry through professional performance opportunities. Known for her expressive voice and natural stage presence, she has become widely recognised as one of the leading young voices in classical crossover music.

Alongside her musical career, Amira is committed to charitable work through the Gelukskinders Foundation, supporting projects that create play spaces and opportunities for children in South Africa.

Joining Amira for this special performance is an exceptional group of musicians and singers celebrating the rich musical traditions of the Highlands and beyond. Accompanying her on the organ is John Brozovsky, alongside Allan Macdonald on the bagpipes and Rachel Campbell on fiddle. They are joined by the Gaelic singing trio Ealtainn, whose distinctive vocal harmonies bring the beauty and heritage of Gaelic song to the programme, creating a unique collaboration of classical and traditional.

Dornoch Gatherings are delighted to welcome Amira Willighagen for what promises to be a memorable performance.

08 July / 19:30 / Dornoch Cathedral

Sian comprises three of today’s most exquisitely gifted Gaelic singers - Ceitlin Lilidh, Eilidh Cormack and Ellen MacDonald – accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Innes White.

With direct connections among the singers to Lewis, Skye and North Uist, their arrangements match deep feeling for tradition with stunning, boldly imaginative harmony work, which has seen them likened to The Staves and even Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Their self-titled debut album, produced by Donald Shaw, was released in 2020. In 2025 they won Best Album of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards.
